Venezuela (2007)
Business trip paid by a private entity for the purpose of evaluating the resource potential of the federal states Lara and Nueva Esparta. As part of the business trip selected deposits of ceramic clay, brick clay and construction materials were visited.
Lara is a major Venezuelan producer of light-firing ceramic clays. This material occurs in the Tertiary sediments of the Morón Formation at a number of deposits in the large area between the cities of Barquisimeto and Sanare. In Lara there is no processing plant and all materials are imported into ceramic plants in other federal states.
The State of Nueva Esparta occupies the Caribbean islands of Margarita, Coche and Cubagua. In regard to the development of tourism extensive industrial mineral extraction is not under consideration there.
