Rwanda (2009)
Geological mapping in the Nyarusange Sector area (Muhanga District, South Province, Rwanda), a contract for the Rwandan company RWANDA Rudniki Sarl.
The subject of the contract was the comprehensive geological mapping of the deposit structures with Sn (Nb-Ta) mineralisation in those areas of exploration licences pertaining to the RWANDA Rudniki Company located in central Rwanda.
The reconnaissance area was located close to the Kigali - Gitarama - Kibuye road, approximately 60-70 km to the west of Kigali, the capital city of Rwanda. In the centre of the area there are two indigenous mines, Remera and Nyamyase, (combining surface and underground mining) that are easily accessible from the Kigali - Gitarama - Kibuye main road by unpaved roads (distances: 2 km to Remera and 8 km to Nyamyase).
The actual fieldwork was focused on the documentation of the geological structure of the Remera area (on a scale of 1: 2,000) that was carried out using the documentation and study of rock fragments, natural and artificial excavations and last, but not least, the implementation of technical exploration works (trenches and shafts). Based on the results of this mapping the contours of new exploration licences were specified and designed and sites suitable for the implementation of further technical exploration works were identified.
Also additionally carried out was the detailed mapping of the individual "indigenous" mines and the pegmatite bodies (on a scale of 1: 1,000) at the Bukina, Gakoma, Kamahirane, Kanyoni, Kibirizi, Mikrolite Valley, Mureherwa, Nyabitare, Nyamirama I and the Remera sites, again using documentation concerning mining walls and indigenous underground development workings (adits and shafts) and the implementation of our own exploration works (i.e. trenches and shafts).
The result was the preparation of the documentation for the report concerning the results of the geological survey for the Ministry of Natural Resources of Rwanda, on the basis of which the RWANDA Rudniki Company applied for the extension of its validity and for the granting of new exploration licences.
