Cambodia (1996)

The project entitled "The Provision of a Raw Material Base for the Construction of a New Plant for the Production of Cement in the Northwestern Area of Cambodia" was carried out in cooperation with the INGES s.r.o. Company on behalf of the PSP Engineering a.s. Company based in Přerov.

Implemented as components of the project were both the research works and the geological fieldwork. As part of the research work conducted directly in the archives of the capital Phnom Penh all the information available concerning the geological works carried out in the past was identified. Subsequently carried out in the field were reconnaissance geological works on the deposit involving targetted geological mapping, sampling, field measurements, etc.

Selected as an area of interest was the area of the occurrence of carbonate rocks in the vicinity of the town of Sisopphon, lying NNW from the town of Battambang. In total 5 sites were examined as being potentially suitable for a main raw-material base for the production of cement and the requisite correction raw materials. These were the locations Phnum Thom, Phnom Prasat, Phnum Thoch, Phnum Tién and Phnum Chréap.

The samples taken were laboratory-tested and technologically evaluated by the laboratories of the Research Institute of Building Materials in Brno.

Based on the results a calculation of the reserves of cement raw materials in the prognostic reserves category was carried out.
