B2B Project in Myanmar (EIA)
This year, our company implemented 2 projects from the development partnership program for the private sector (B2B) of the Czech Development Agency in Myanmar. In the environmental field, the project "Establishment an EIA consultancy office in Myanmar to minimize environmental impacts of mining projects" was supported in the preparation phase (processing the business plan). The business plan has evaluated the possibility of establishment a consultancy office in Myanmar for processing environmental documentation for mining organizations. Primarily, these documentations would be EIA, IEE, EMP documents for mining projects. The consultancy office would operate as an economically separate unit with legal personality established by our company. In the medium and long term, this office must be economically self-sufficient and generate profits. At the same time, there is a presumption of the development impact in the target country, as a result of this business will be the minimization of environmental impacts of mining projects.
The business plan was elaborated on the basis of extensive collection and analysis of information from the Czech Republic even also during the 17-day business trip of two our experts to Myanmar. There were held meetings with representatives of mining organizations and their associations, representatives of the Ministry responsible for the EIA process, representatives of private consultancy companies and non-governmental organizations working in the sphere of environmental protection. At the same time, field surveys were carried out at specific mining sites and in areas with a higher concentration of mining activities in regions Sagaing and Mandalay.
In the near future, the preparation of this plan will continue, including the search for other funding options, whether through its own economic activity or from external sources.
The new government of Myanmar recognizes that the country's tremendous mineral wealth must be used sustainably and environmentally friendly. A modern EIA law was adopted in 2015. During the project implementation, we have found great interest of all partners in presentation the topics of environmental protection during mining activities. Consequently, the implementation of the project in the preparatory phase, coupled with expert presentations for Myanmar partners, has itself met the development goals and contributed to the transfer of know-how in this field.
